Reading and Books Group

Books we have read.

The Reading and Books Group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Plantation Hall, Heybridge. Each month, we all read the same book for discussion at our next meeting.

At the start of each year, we discuss as a group which books we would like to read and add these to a list which is given to the library. Library staff then aim to find a book on the list for which they can supply sufficient copies for each member to have one. Books are collected and returned to the library by the Group Co-ordinator.

The fact that group members have very different reading tastes makes for lively discussions. Books that some love are hated by others and vice versa! Quite often, members find themselves enjoying a book which they would never have read had they not been in the Book Group.

Books we have read during the last year include:

"At Home" by Bill Bryson

"Where or When" by Anita Shreeve

"The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver

"The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society"
by Mary Ann Schaffer

"The Sunday Philosophy Club" by Alexander McCall Smith

"The Reluctant Fundamentalist" by Mohsin Hamid

"The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger

"The Snow Child" by Eowyn Ivey

"The Shipping News" by Annie Proulx
